In this series, I’ll explore the importance of your business’ digital presence and how you can maximize it in order to increase your revenue.
As long as I can remember I have heard the phrase, 'location, location, location.' The better the location for your business, the easier it is for buyers to find you and therefore buy from you. Walgreens has built an empire on this idea by physically locating their stores on the intersections of main roads across the country.
But now buyers are now looking for you online, so you must be located on the ‘main streets’ of local internet traffic. Your location in the digital world is just as important as your location in the physical world.
There are stats to back this up too. $10.3 billion dollars in annual in-store scales are lost due to missing, incomplete, or incorrect business listings information online (VentureBeat). Take a quick pause and search for your business online to see what comes up - 43% of business listings have at least one incorrect or missing address (VentureBeat).
These numbers may seem like a simple industry estimate and therefore difficult to relate to, but consider a time when you have tried to look for a business online but the information was incorrect. This happened to me a couple of years ago here in Raleigh where a big box retailer had moved a couple of times but did not update their information online. I actually gave up trying to find them and instead went to Walmart to purchase the computer adapter. This happens every day to businesses large and small.
You need to add and correct your listing on these listing sites. Unfortunately, there are hundreds of listing sites out there and like most businesses you probably do not have the resources to visit each site and add your information. So prioritize and start with where the most people are: Google, Bing, Yelp, and YellowPages account for 85% of business information traffic (Vendasta).
Visit these listing sites to see if your listing information is present. If you created the listing at one time, but the information is now incorrect login and edit it. If you never logged in before and the information is incorrect or missing, then you will need to create an account with the respective listing site and claim the listing page.
This may seem like a lot of work, but the benefits actually go beyond what has already been stated. Accurate and consistent listing information on these listing sites will improve your SEO on search engines. At Netsertive, we often hear from customers that they need to work on their SEO. Visible and accurate listing information is one way to positively improve your SEO and overall page rankings.
