Life as an Intern: Emily Flowers

Find me on:

When I started my junior year at UNC, I didn’t expect to take on an internship and I definitely wasn’t actively looking for one. But when one of my sorority sisters, Sissy, posted about a marketing internship on a Facebook page, I decided to just reach out and learn more. I wasn’t sure what area of business I wanted to pursue, but marketing had always interested me, so this opportunity seemed like a great way to jumpstart my experience in the marketing world.

After applying and interviewing, Nicole called me to let me know I had gotten the internship and I was so excited! Even though I was only working a couple days a week, I knew this job would add so much value to what I was learning in my classes.

I was right. Joining the Corporate Marketing team at Netsertive exposed me to various areas of marketing that I knew nothing about. I was able to help create email campaigns, construct landing pages, build contact lists, and conduct competitor research. On top of all that, I joined the company at such an interesting time because they were in the middle of reorganizing the team, designing a brand-new website, and creating cohesive brand language. So, I not only got to see how a marketing team works – I got to experience how a company evolves and grows to remain as effective as possible.

As I leave Netsertive, I can confidently say that this was the best addition I could have had to my schedule this semester. I learned so much from the people here and that is what I will miss the most. There are so many talented and accomplished individuals who have gone the extra mile to explain concepts to me, introduce me to different sectors of marketing, and just sit down and talk about how they got to where they are now. I couldn’t have asked for a better internship experience!
